It was bound to happen: Arnold Schwarzenegger is plotting his return to blockbuster glory in a package of new Terminator films currently being shopped around Hollywood by CAA. Fast Five helmer Justin Lin would reportedly direct, and a cluster of studios are in contention to make a deal.
Deadline reported the developments a bit ago, noting that Universal, Sony and Lionsgate are all “looking hard at the package.” The latter two studios once sought to pair up to acquire the property rights from Halcyon, a company that bankrolled the 2009 franchise entry Terminator Salvation before going broke and ultimately offloading the rights to the hedge fund Pacificor. The property had been idle awaiting the end of Schwarzenegger’s term as California governor. A few months later, here we are.
No script appears to be part of the package, so even if this sells tonight, expect at least a few years before Schwarzenegger — who’ll be 64 in July — is fully back in Terminator mode. And how about Justin Lin? Thoughts?
